Sizing your HVAC system has many variables that go into determining what your house needs. Insulation, windows, materials the house is built with all factor into what size unit your house may need. More often then not, contractors oversize your equipment. Oversizing your equipment leads to short cycling, humidity control issues, and much more! Preventative maintenance can often catch small issues before they become big issues. Did you know a bad capacitor can cause a compressor to fail? This is in more extreme cases, but is a possibility. Weak capacitors will cause some sort of failure at the worst time possible for any homeowner. It is best to have your system serviced in the spring and fall for the respective seasons coming up. Servicing them also helps keep them running as efficiently as they possibly can.

There's no real clear cut answer to this question. In the end, it all comes down to price points and warranty for every person. There's also the added benefit of systems today are much more efficient then systems from 10-20 years ago. Any piece of equipment can be repaired and retrofitted in most cases when OEM parts are obsolete for a system due to it's age. When considering replacing your system, also consider checking your ductwork out. Depending on the age of the ductwork, there could be issues with it. Some units have some excessive fan noise, but 9 out of 10 times the ductwork is undersized. The return is usually the culprit for this issue. Under sized ductwork leads to higher static pressure on the system. Every system is different, but all manufacturer's have a maximum static pressure the system *should* operate at. Failure to keep the system within these parameters leads to excessive wear and tear on your system and reduces the lifespan of the system.

Change your filters on a regular basis, and clean your outdoor coils every 2 months with a water hose (be careful not to hit it with too much pressure so you don't bend the fins on the condenser) during cooling season.

Not always! Check your air filter and make sure it's not completely stopped up. If you have easy access, check your indoor coil to see if it is dirty or not. Before calling, check to make sure all fan motors are running on your indoor and outdoor units. If you find one of your motors not running when they are supposed to, shut your system off immediately to prevent further damage and call us immediately! If you find none of these issues, go ahead and call us because it's likely a refrigerant or metering device issue.
